Terrace, Annandale

Our client’s house in Annandale was a typical layout for a Victorian terrace: the bathroom and kitchen had been added to the rear, and poor construction and planning resulted in a disconnect between house and garden.

With our client being an avid gardener, the primary brief was to connect living areas with the garden and add another bedroom.

The rear of the house was demolished and replaced by a new extension, accessed through a glazed corridor, creating accessible garden courtyard areas and defining old from new. The living areas were moved from the front of the house to the rear to access the north-facing back garden and outdoor entertaining area. Use of glass doors into the courtyard and rear yard, along with windows carefully placed to capture views of trees and sky, while ensuring privacy, have created a light-filled residence.
